TI's Media-ready DSPs, the C64x family and the DM64x, are acknowledged as the world's fastest DSPs, topping 1GHz (8000 MIPS) for the DM64x family and 1GHz (8000 MIPS) for the C64x family. These top-rate performance figures are joined by efficient power consumption (less than 1.3 Watts at 600 Mhz) and highly attractive quantity pricing, creating one of the most compelling value propositions in the embedded signal processing industry.

The DM642 Media DSP

The DM642 offers video devices designers an efficient computing platform that integrates (in addition to standard C64x peripheral interfaces) three configurable glue-less audio /video ports, as depicted below:

Key Features (DM642)

The DM642 provides fully integrated video solution to OEM designers, by incorporating the following key elements:
C64 VLIW DSP Core, including JTAG support and interrupts handling
Three configurable video ports capable of glue-less video input, video output, or Transport- Stream input (formats: BT.656, Y/C, RAW and TSI)
10/100 Mbps Ethernet MAC (EMAC) and Management data input/output (MDIO) module
66 MHz 32-bit peripheral component interconnect (PCI)
Multi-channel Audio Serial Port (McASP)
Two Multi-channel Buffered Serial Ports (McBSP)
Inter-integrated circuit (I2C) bus module
Three 32-bit general-purpose timers
General-purpose input/output (GPIO) port
64-bit external memory interface (EMIF) that is capable of interfacing to synchronous and asynchronous memories and peripherals
User-configurable 16-bit or 32-bit host port interface (HPI16/HPI32)
VCXO interpolated control port (VIC) - flexible speed setting

Performance

The DM642 core processing unit is identical to the one developed for the highly acclaimed C64x family, bringing state-of-the-art DSP performance to real-time high resolution (full D1) video applications. A diagram depicting the DM642 parallel architecture is provided below:
